Bahrain's king has appointed a Jewish Shura Council member and a top female activist as the Kingdom’s next ambassador to Washington, making her the Arab world's first ever Jewish ambassador.
“It is an honor bestowed upon me by HM the King. I am yet to receive the documents from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. I will visit them next week and then they will spell out my role in Washington,” lawmaker Huda Ezra Nonoo was quoted by the Bahrain Tribune as saying.
“I look forward to the challenges that such a role brings with it,” she added. A member of Bahrain’s Jewish community, Huda has served as legislator in the 40-member Shura for three years.

Generally speaking, Bahrain and bahraini people are considered the most educated and most opened minded in the Gulf Area..

Sure enough observer, thanks for the correction, it was a mix up. And I agree that Bahraini are the most liberal by the Gulf standard. But to my opinion, this is due to the fact that the majority are Shia in a sea of Sunni Gulf countries, and king Hamad relatively progressive ideas in foreign policy and towards Israel. Unfortunately, it doesn't have the weight to have an impact to change the nature of islam.

I lived in Bahrain for a few years and my kids were classmates of kids of the royal family. Sheikh Hamad, just like his late father Sheikh Salman, is an open-minded person. Never the less, I'm surprised because the Jews in Bahrain are now less than 50 persons belonging to two families, Nono and Rubin. Bahrain is the only Gulf state with Jewish synagogues, it has two.
However, the liberal environment of Bahrain is changing rapidly under the increasing influence and pressure of the fundamentalists.
Only time will tell whether King Hamad can withstand the pressure but I should add that I'm confident he will.

Perhaps I was not clear enough, forgive me: However, I think that maybe you are not understanding exactly what we Catholics believe (remember, there is a big difference between a Catholic and a Protestant. That last word just means "protestor" And they protest against the Catholic belief that "Faith without reason is insanity". There is quite a difference.
We believe that when Adam and Eve partook of the Judgment Tree, instead of first learning about Mercy, and Extenuating Circumstances, they set the whole human race into a deadly judgment mode which caused us humans to become revengeful, even to the point of call revenge "honorable" So we became savage and unhappy until God, in the form of Jesus Christ demonstrated to the whole world that God was not a holder of hatred and a lover of revenge and cursing, but a mild person who is in love with peace, forgiveness and understanding. But, because of the hardness of mens hearts because of the ir fear of letting go of hate and revenge and suspicion, God allowed Divorce, and needed to punish those who murdered babies (the Pagans called 'Cananites') because, as Jesus put it, " The hardness of your hearts" But before Adam and Eve fell in love with THE LAW Jesus says, men were not allowed to divorce their wives or war. But it was impossible for us to understand love until God Himself proved that we should behave as civilized children of God even to the death - and so He did, making Himself merely human in order to show us how to die in order to soften the hard hearts of our fellow humans (but He also said, that we do not necessarily have to die because His sacrifice was sufficient However, our sacrifice to the death will be accepted by God with gratitude in order to help show how a civilized human can forgive, and even forgive Adam and Eve, thereby understanding that God is innocent because God cannot give you free will with out making you really, really, FREE!(even free to sin) For if one is not free to sin, one is a dead robot no matter how perfectly the robot might act! So, you see, we are all forgiven the hard laws in the Old testiament, and the laws in the New Testament are only cultural laws to be obeyed so as not to offend those many people who still believe in them = for Jesus said there is only one law, the law of Love - when one has love, one no longer needs law - further, St. Paul also teaches us the "the Law is our enemy for by the Law Death came into the world".
